GARDEN QUEEN by Susan Mendez

GARDEN QUEEN by Susan Mendez

When I was just a figurine I’d dream I’d be the Garden Queen

Hummingbirds would grace my scepter sipping honeysuckle nectar

Baby’s Breath would be the crown butterflies would dance around.

Little birds would chirp and tweet as they flutter at my feet

Lilies all would stand and bow, to me their loyalty they’d vow.

Pansies curtsey, daisies gaze, Rose of Sharon tribute pays

Vincas make a royal plea and usher in the bumblebees.

Ladybugs in their elation show up for the coronation

Foxglove with their trumpets toot and all the bottlebrush salute.

A carpet lush of emerald green creeps round my toes and in between

Roses make a fragrant gesture dropping petals on my vesture.

Coleus with its velvet leaves makes me epaulets for my sleeves

Alstroemeria give their blessing ending all the garden’s guessing

Then Miron comes and calls my name and Garden Queen I am proclaimed!
