THE CHOIR by MJ Kruty
The writer’s group, seated around the table, listened to the soprano sing her story. When finished, the tenor, who sat at her left, was the first to critique. He flipped through the pages of his copy to the misplaced modifier, then he emphatically advised the deletion of all LY words.
Next came the alto calling the soprano’s attention to the POV’s in several places, then following with a dissertation of her disliking of words ending in ING.
The contralto pointed out a missed opportunity and suggested the soprano use less description.
The baritone disagreed. He recommended more description throughout the story. Was the protagonist curvaceous? Was the guard dog friendly? He cautioned the soprano’s use of the word WAS.
Their voices, combined into one, diminished the original story.
The soprano considered their comments, then simply changed key.
With bold determination, the soprano’s strong voice rose above the palaver of the choir, and the story became an unabridged solo.
